Haier Agrees to Consent Decree with The U.S. DOE With a Parts Defect of 4 Freezer Models

New York, NY (January 7, 2010) – Haier America Trading, L.L.C. has agreed to all terms in a Consent Decree with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) with regard to a parts defect of 4 freezer models: HUF138EA, HUF138PB, HUF168EA, and HUF168PB. Of those models, units with serial numbers that begin with a 1 or 2, and end with 120008  through 040009, as well as units with serial numbers that begin with the letters BR and end with the numbers 9300000-9699999, are involved in this action. The Consent Decree does not constitute a determination regarding any compliance or noncompliance with the requirements of DOE’s rules.  

Haier America has created a related Service Bulletin for technicians, and the company will individually notify affected customers to repair the unit.

Haier America will also post a notice on www.haieramerica.com to provide instructions for consumers regarding how to obtain repairs. Consumers can also call Haier America’s Customer Service line toll-free at (877) 337-3639.
