New York, NY (April 23, 2010) - Haier America Trading, L.L.C. announces a clarification concerning its upright freezer inspection rework program.  The program was created to correct a parts defect on 4 freezer models: HUF138EA, HUF138PB, HUF168EA, and HUF168PB and was discussed in Haier’s January 7, 2010 press release.  

Of those models, units with serial numbers that begin with a 1 or 2, and end with 120008 through 040009 (as well as units with serial numbers that begin with the letters BR and end with the numbers 93xxxxx-96xxxxx) are involved in the program.     

Some materials referring to the program had stated that the sequence of serial numbers that began with a 1 or 2 ended with “040009 through 120008.”  Such sequencing of the serial numbers has apparently resulted in some consumers erroneously understanding or being told that their units are not within the scope of the program.  Haier America urges that any customers who may fall within this category contact the company to determine whether their units are within the program’s scope and thus eligible for repair.  Haier America is also individually notifying affected customers to assure that eligible units are repaired.  In addition, Haier America has changed the order of the serial number sequence on its existing website announcement to accurately reflect the date-code nature of the numbering sequence 120008 through 040009.   

Haier America has created a Service Bulletin for technicians and posted a notice onwww.haieramerica.com to provide instructions for consumers regarding how to obtain repairs. Consumers can also call Haier America’s Customer Service line toll-free at (877) 337-3639.
